Here’s to New Beginnings

29 Jul

I spent most of today (well, now yesterday) giving this blog and my tumblr page major make-overs.  I haven’t had either account for too long, but I felt that neither of them was accurately representing me as I am right now.  After hours of editing the tiniest details, I’m really happy with the end results for both projects.  For this site, I like that the navigation is easier to find, the fonts are bolder, and the white background better represents what I’m about right now–starting fresh with new beginnings. (Wait, does that sound redundant?)

This fall, I’ll be beginning a life that is different from the one I’ve known since… forever, really. For the first time since I was 5 years old, I won’t be able to say that I’m a student anymore.  I’ll be taking some time off from graduate school and going back to California to make some money and gain some “real-world experience,” as they say.  Now, if you’ve read some of my previous posts, you may have an idea that I sort of love California, The Bay, and being home. So it won’t be all boohoos and sad goodbyes from me.  I think what will be most difficult about leaving grad school is that I’m having to go because of irreconcilable financial struggles.  It’s a long, extremely complicated story, with a fuzzy beginning and a dismal ending, but it’s life.

I’m actually already looking forward to a few amazing things that will be part of that new life o’ mine.  For example, I’m excited about my new jobs.  I’ve sent my resume out to about 25 places and heard back from about 5 so far… But the people I’ve heard back from sound great, and I know good things are in store for me in the job arena.  Also, one thing that I’m starting while here in New York that will be continuing with me into my new life in California is my partnership with Open Sky, a new company that is making shopping personal.

If you stalk me on Twitter and/or Facebook, as I hope you do, you may have noticed my occasional tweets, status updates, or profile changes about “something exciting” coming.  Well, I’m glad to say that *something exciting* is almost here!  The *something exciting* is the store I will be opening here on my blog, as a brand new Seller with Open Sky!  My partnership with Open Sky will allow me to sell products that I use and LOVE to my readers and friends.

I’m in love with the idea of being an Open Sky Seller because it will further allow me to do what I love doing with social media–sharing information, opinions, great deals, and my personal experiences with my friends, family, and followers.  I’ve wanted to have this sort of opportunity for the longest time, and I’m really grateful that Open Sky has given it to me.

In addition to getting to continue doing what I love, I like that Open Sky’s Mission is about putting good into the world.  Open Sky supports pursuing your passions, living your dream, open communication, and helping others.  And that’s what I’ll be sharing with you with my new store.

But that’s not all.  If you know me a little, you know that I can be a sucker for big names.  And, I just want to put it out that there Open Sky was featured on Good Morning America this week.  Not only GMA, but Open Sky is also friends with one of my new favorite Internet finds: Time Out New York.  Pretty good, right?

So as I begin my new life outside of the world of ivory towers, I’ll also be beginning this great partnership with a company in which I believe and starting a new adventure with you, my readers.  So let’s get to it! The sky’s the limit.

“Fifteen seconds never felt so good.”

13 Jul

I’ve been soooo busy with what I believe will go down in history as my first official Grown Up Job.  Up until yesterday, I’d been working 12 to 14 hour days, barely having time to eat or use the restroom for hours straight on several days.  But now things are going  more smoothly at work… More on that later.  Of course, I’ve been working on a few personal projects recently as well– my new 365 project and sending out Sponsored Tweets on Twitter.   I’ve also got another project in the works, which I’ll talk about soon, but for now, check out this beautiful, romantic song that I heard on The Hills Series Finale a little while ago.  Man, I’m such a sucker for love songs.  :)

Happy Birthday, Etsy!

19 Jun

I trekked to Brooklyn with some friends yesterday to check out Etsy’s Craft Party and 5th Birthday Celebration.  There were, of course, tons of opportunities to MAKE things… Glass-painting, button-making, designing tote bags, etc.  A great DJ kept the mood going for the 3 hours that the event was open to the public.   It was a really great meetup opportunity, and I’m excited to discover more great events like this through Time Out New York, one of my new favorite links and also the source my friend used to discover the Etsy celebration!  We walked away with some free buttons, cute totes, and a free American Apparel shirt from Meetup.com.  Some of my flicks from the event can be found below, and Etsy’s pics can be found on their Flickr page!
